You are not the first

Most people who call us have never done anything like this before

Almost everyone apologises for ringing. There is nothing to apologise for — people come to us because a situation has become impossible to live with, not because they enjoy the idea of a lie detector.

You will not be judged

Whatever the situation is, we have heard something like it before and we will not react. Your appointment is a professional one, not a confession.

You stay in control

The test is voluntary from beginning to end. You agree every question before anything is recorded, and you can stop at any point without giving a reason.

Nothing leaves the room

Your report goes to you. We do not discuss your case with anyone you have not named, and our emails never say what the appointment is for.

What we do

Examinations we carry out

Every examination is single-issue and focused on specific, factual questions that you agree with the examiner in advance.

How it works

Four steps, no surprises

1

A private conversation

We talk through what you want the examination to establish and whether a polygraph is the right tool. If it is not, we will tell you.

2

Agreeing the questions

On the day, you and the examiner write the questions together. You see and approve every one before anything is recorded.

3

The examination

Sensors record breathing, cardiovascular activity and sweat-gland activity while the agreed questions are asked. Nothing is invasive.

4

Your result and report

The examiner explains the outcome before you leave, and a written report follows. Inconclusive results are reported honestly as inconclusive.

Why us

Measured, qualified and straight with you

Who carries out your examination

Examinations are carried out by an experienced subcontracted polygraph examiner who is accredited and a member of both the British Polygraph Association and the American Polygraph Association. You will be told who is examining you before the day, and you can ask about their background at any point.

Common questions

The things people ask before they book

How accurate is a polygraph test?

The polygraph profession's own research — the American Polygraph Association's 2011 meta-analysis of 38 studies — reports about 89% for a properly conducted single-issue examination and about 85% for broader multi-issue screening. Two things should be said plainly alongside that. It is the profession's own research rather than independent work, and the US National Academy of Sciences review puts the figure lower. No examiner should tell you a test is infallible. Accuracy depends on the examiner's training, how carefully the questions are written, and whether the examinee is fit to be tested. A polygraph measures physiological responses — it does not read minds.

Is the test confidential?

Yes. Your appointment, your reasons for it and your results are confidential. We only release the report to the people you tell us to. Our confirmation emails are deliberately plain and never mention polygraph or lie detection in the subject line or sender name, in case someone else sees your phone. Full detail is in our privacy policy.

Does the other person have to agree to be tested?

Yes, always. A polygraph examination is entirely voluntary. The person being tested must give informed consent in writing before we begin, and they can stop the examination at any point without giving a reason. We will not test anyone who has been pressured, threatened or misled into attending — and if that becomes apparent on the day, we will end the appointment.

Can I use the result in court?

Polygraph evidence is not accepted by the criminal or family courts in England and Wales, and we will never tell you otherwise. People use these tests privately — to settle something between themselves, to decide whether to continue a relationship, or to give a family some certainty. If your situation involves a legal case, please take advice from a solicitor first.

How long does an appointment take?

Allow around two hours for a single-issue examination. Most of that time is the pre-test interview, where we agree the exact questions with you. The recorded part of the test itself is a much smaller portion of the appointment. A couples test, where two people are examined, takes longer.
